The 15th annual Carolina Sports Medicine Battleship North Carolina Half Marathon and Port Land Grille Battleship 5K is the best undiscovered Destination Race you'll ever do! The race includes a beautiful, USATF-certified (NC-05061-PH) Half Marathon and precisely measured 5K that starts and finishes at the Battleship North Carolina across the river from downtown Wilmington, NC. It's only 9 miles to Wrightsville Beach which is one of the most picturesque beaches on the east coast. The Half Marathon course crosses 2 bridges, goes through historic downtown Wilmington, and tours beautiful Greenfield Lake with the 12-mile mark at the top of the Memorial Bridge which is the highest point on the course. Entries are limited to 1,850 runners in the Half Marathon and 400 in the 5K. The course is challenging for a coastal area race, but has produced 8 state records in our 14-year history.

ENTRY FEES: Half Marathon: $60 until April 17th, $65 until August 15th, and $70 after that until we close out at 1,850 entrants. Fee for the 5K is $35 until race day, then $40. REFUNDS: 50% refund of race fee on request.

RACE DAY REGISTRATION (If the race is not closed out): 6:00 AM - 7:30 am at the Battleship in the Auditorium. Half Marathon $75 and 5K is $40 on race day. Take the ramp located to the right of the steps leading up to the main entrance. Go in the side door and register inside the auditorium.
Packet Pickup Race Day: You can pick up your packet in the auditorium race morning at the Battleship. Take the ramp to the right of the main entrance steps and go in the single door. Packet available from 6:00 am until 7:45 am.
You Must Show Photo ID to pick up your race packet.
FINISHER MEDALS: Custom made Finisher Medals in the Half Marathon for Runners and Walkers. There is a picture of last year's Finisher Medal on the picture scroll on the home page. The 2013 medal will be even nicer!
CHIP TIMING: Precision Race will provide timing services. Your timing tag is attached to your race number. The race number MUST BE WORN ON THE FRONT OF THE BODY. When you register for the race include your cell # and you will receive a text message with your time immediately after you finish.
COURSE: USAT&F certified (NC-0651-PH) Half Marathon. The Battleship 5K is precisely measured. Three hour time limit for half-marathon. Four hour time limit for Walkers & Run/Walkers who start at 7:00 am. The course is fun and a little challenging (for a coastal area Half Marathon), has three bridges, passes through historic downtown Wilmingtom, and has views of the Cape Fear River at various places and includes a loop around a beautiful lake.
EXPO & PACKET PICKUP: At the Coastlne Conference Center November 2nd from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A friend may pick up your race packet, but they must show ID and sign for your packet.
Race day registration at the Battleship from 6:00 am to 7:30 am SHARP - If the race in not Closed Out. No t-shirt Size exchange. We order based on what you tell us.
WALKERS RUN/WALKERS 7:00 am Start: Be sure to register as a walker on the hard copy entry form or online if you start at 7:00 am, otherwise your race time will be incorrect. There is a 4-hour time limit for walkers Run/Walkers (You must finish by 11:00 AM). If you register as a Walker you MUST start at 7:00 am. Otherwise your time will be off by One Hour - not good.
NOTE: Walkers get the same Custom Finisher Medals, same T-shirts, same everything that runners get - you earned it!
There are No Specific Walker Age Group Awards. Your time will appear in your respective age group results and will be accurate. It is possible to get an age group award if you start at 7:00 am and are in the top three time-wise in your age group.
Walker Safety: Course control volunteers and WPD will be in place at 7:00 AM but you will have to know the course and be Very Careful of traffic (at all times, of course) since you will be walking for the first and last 2 miles on highways with 55mph speed limits. Please stay no more than two abreast at all times so that runners can pass you in the middle miles of the course and for best safety practices.
Bag Storage on Race Day: You can stash your bag in the Auditorium at the Battleship. Go up the ramp next to the main entrance steps and enter through the single door. The room should be occupied all morning but WE CANNOT Be resposible for valuables left in bags.
Age Limit for the Half Marathon is 13 yrs old.
No Jog Strollers or Racing Chairs of any Kind. Sorry but for Safety Purposes, we Do NOT allow any Jog Strollers or Crank Chairs or Racing Chairs in either race. Our course is not safe for racing chairs or jog strollers.

Half Marathon:
Open and Masters M/F First Place Winners receive running shoes courtesy of New Balance of Wilmington. Top three M/F Open, Masters & Military (Active Duty and Retired) receive awards (but not shoes), as well as the top three M/F in 5-year age groups from 1-17, 18-24, to 70+.
5K Awards: 3-deep in Open and Masters M/F and Age Group awards from 1-10, 11-13, 14 - 15, 16-19, 20-24... to 70+. No Military Awards in the 5K.
For the Purpose of Awards:
OPEN means anyone is the race no matter what age.
MASTERS means 40+ yrs of age
MILITARY AWARDS - Military Entrants are eligible for Both Military Award categories and Age Group categories. Otherwise is would be as if the Military Entrants were doing their own seperate race. In all other situations there will be no duplication of awards.
WATER STATIONS: 6 water stops (approximately 2 mile intervals) staffed by Omega Sports, the Boy Scouts Wilmington, Pharmaceutical Product Development - PPD (Emily Martin), Trysports - our great Expo Title Sponsor with UNCW Teaching Fellows assistance, and the ladies of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority of UNCW.
BATHROOMS/PORTA JOHNS- Bathrooms are available in the Hilton Hotel at the 3-mile point. Porta Johns are located on the course at the 5-mile point, the 8.7 mile point, and the 10.4-mile point.
POST RACE FOOD/HYDRATION FOR RUNNERS: Budweiser, Water and Gatorade, bagels from The Bagel Basket, fruit from Holden Brothers Farm Market, and Domino's Pizza. Runner's food tent is staffed by Cape Fear Literacy Council volunteers. SPEACTATOR FOOD WILL BE FOR SALE NEAR THE RUNNERS FOOD TENT - see below:
SPECTATOR FOOD TRAILER is staffed by the Vietnam Veterans of America - Chapter 885. Spectator Food is sold with money going to the Vietnam Vets of America. Runners Food Tent chow is FOR RUNNERS ONLY. Spectators please bring a few bucks to purchase some good snacks from The Vietnam Vets of America. Sorry but we cannot provide free food to non-runners or walkers of any age.
BEER:(2) beer tickets will be attached to the race number of each over age (21) runner when you pick up your packet.

PARKING:You MUST park in designated parking spaces at the Battleship. Arrive early and follow the attendant's directions. BATTLESHIP ACCESS ROAD WILL CLOSE AT 7:00 AM SHARP, or when the lot is full everyone will be turned away no matter the time.
PARKING DOWNTOWN RACE MORNING: PARK FREE DOWNTOWN ON SUNDAY IN METERED SPACES ONLY. Municipal Parking Decks and Lots ARE NOT FREE. IF you park in ANY lots or decks, YOU MUST PAY. If you do not pay, you WILL GET A TICKET and possible be towed. DO NOT PARK IN ANY PRIVATE PARKING LOTS OR DECKS OR YOU WILL BE TOWED AWAY. IT costs $200 to get your car back!!
RIVER TAXI & SHUTTLE BUSES: Two River Taxi Boats will be in service Race morning. Depart just south of the Hilton on Water Street. No Spectators, Fans, or any non-racer will be allowed on Race Transportation (Boats or Buses) until after 8:00 am race morning. We must get all the runners and walkers over to the Battleship before race start time and we can't do it if non-runners try to use race transportation prior to race start time. There will be Trolley Buses as well as boats departing from 6:00 AM - 1:00 PM. In addition, shuttle buses will depart from the Hilton from 6:00 - 7:30 am and return 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM. Buses also depart from the Muicipal Parking Deck on 2nd Street and Chestnut Street from 6:00 am until 7:30 am.
TROPHY & T-SHIRT MAILING:Trophies will be mailed for a $15.00 mailing fee. Contact the Race Director within two weeks after the race. AFTER NOVEMBER 18th, NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED and the 2013 race will be over.
